As a collector of antiques and collectibles for more than half a century, the history and design of the pieces in my stewardship left me desirous to see them working, and in the light of day, once again.
My appreciation began at the age of eight, at the flea markets around Toronto: 19th century postcards at a penny a piece, shoehorns for a dime. Shoehorns gave way to button hooks, compacts and vintage handbags, and in time to a collection spanning the whole of the 19th and 20th centuries.
“My love affair with these material anchors would call out and say, ‘don’t you remember when?’, and remember I did, and remember I do.”
Nothing today compares to the workmanship and style of the previous 150 years. Offering these now-rare pieces for hire is my way of dusting them off, providing utility and practical pleasure to others trained in beauty and design.
